Laser hair removal targets pigment within hair follicles to reduce growth. A course of treatments is often needed, with response influenced by hair colour, skin tone and treatment area.
What to consider
Ask which Candela system is appropriate for your skin. Redness and swelling can occur; burns, scarring and pigment changes are possible. Recent tanning matters when assessing suitability.

PERSONALISED CARE
What this consultation can explore.
- Unwanted darker, coarser hair
- Recurring shaving or waxing irritation
- A personalised treatment course
- Skin-tone-appropriate laser settings
These are possible discussion points, not a diagnosis or promise of a particular result. Your clinician will assess the concern before recommending treatment.
How the treatment is planned.
Laser energy targets pigment in actively growing hair. Because hairs cycle through different growth phases, a course is usually required and maintenance may be discussed. Response is generally better in pigmented hair than white, grey, red or very fine hair. Bioclinic will confirm the Candela system and settings selected for your skin and treatment area.
Recovery & safety.
Temporary redness and follicular swelling are common. Burns, blistering, scarring and lighter or darker skin can occur. Recent tanning, photosensitising medicines and previous pigment reactions matter. Follow advice on shaving, sun exposure and skincare before and after each appointment.
Frequently asked questions.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It is better described as long-term hair reduction. Regrowth, hormonal change and the need for maintenance vary.
Can darker skin tones be treated?
They may be treatable with an appropriate device, wavelength, settings and experienced assessment. A test spot may be recommended.
Should I wax before treatment?
Usually no, because the follicle needs to remain available as a target. Follow the clinic's specific preparation instructions and ask when to shave.
