Cool Confidence: The Rise of Botox in Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Sweating is a normal bodily response to manage body temperature. However excessive sweating is a matter of concern. It is called hyperhidrosis, the reasons for which are often unknown.

Upon diagnosis, Doctors often recommend antiperspirants or anticholinergic as a first line of defense. If these don’t work there are surgical interventions that sever the overactive nerve endings that trigger sweating.

Luckily technology has brought in a non-surgical solution that doesn’t demand a recovery time. This is called Botox or Botulinum Toxin.

Botox and Hyperhidrosis

  • Treatment Overview

Hyperhidrosis usually occurs in the armpits, palms, face, and soles of feet. Botox injected into the affected area blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine that triggers the sweat glands. However tangible results are only made from research on the effects of Botox on the underarms. Hence the FDA has approved Botox only to apply on the armpits. But specialists tend to apply it on other affected areas “off-label”.

The treatment of Botox Abu Dhabi starts with a local anesthetic in the affected area. Following this Botox is injected just beneath the skin surface using a needle. Usually, about 15 to 20 injections are made in a grid pattern around the affected area. The treatment is finished with it. The practitioner asks you to visit after 2 weeks for follow-ups.

  • Is Botox painful?

Mild pain or Bruising at the injection site will follow. It will go away soon. The practitioner may also give you something like ice or a numbing agent to relieve the pain.

  • The Treatment Duration

Botox in Abu Dhabi usually takes around 30 minutes. The whole appointment won’t go beyond an hour.

  • Recovery Period for Botox

Surprisingly you can go on with your daily work as soon as you finish your appointment.

  • Side Effects

Pain, bruises, and/or swelling in the injected area are generally found among patients. If it is injected on your face droopy eyelid, eye dryness, and facial paralysis can be expected. Other than that serious side effects like breathing difficulty and muscle weakness are rarely found.

  • Is it a Permanent Solution?

Botox is not a permanent solution for hyperhidrosis. The treatment might be repeated after 6 months. In the case of facial injections, the effect might not last that long. However, follow-up injections are generally required every 7 to 16 months.

  • When will it start to take effect?

Botox will start working within 2 to 4 days. Its complete effect can be expected in 2 weeks. In the case of armpits, the condition of hyperhidrosis will be reduced by more than 50 percent by this time. The effect of Botox in other areas is found to be less than 50 percent.

  • How to Prepare for Botox?

Wear a short-sleeved shirt. Avoid shaving armpits from 3 days before treatments. If you are a person taking blood thinners avoid it for a few days. It is better to let the doctor know of this condition or any other medication that you are taking.

  • Botox: Is it expensive?

A person who wants to treat both underarms might have to spend about 1000 Dollars. Indeed this figure varies depending on the patient’s condition and the location where the treatment is done.
